What we check
Eleven areas, from outside, in a few seconds.
Everything below is read from what your website shows any visitor, plus the public DNS records for the domain. No login, no access, and nothing installed.
Security and HTTPS
The encryption, the certificate and how long it has left, whether plain HTTP is redirected, and which security headers your server sends.
Performance
How long your server takes to answer, how heavy the page is, whether it is compressed and cached, what blocks it from drawing, and how images load.
Mobile readiness
The phone viewport, whether it is fixed to one screen width, and whether visitors can pinch to zoom.
Search visibility
Search engine access, the title and description, the preferred address, robots.txt, the sitemap, and whether www and non-www agree.
Content and structure
The main heading, the heading order, the page language, how much readable text the server actually sends, the favicon and the character set.
Structured data
Whether the page describes the business to machines in schema.org form. That is what search results and AI answers read first.
Social sharing
What a link to your site looks like when somebody shares it: the headline, the description and the picture, or the absence of them.
AI and crawler access
Which AI search tools and assistants your robots.txt lets in, whether the content is readable without JavaScript, and whether you publish an llms.txt file.
Email and domain
The public DNS records that decide whether mail from your domain is trusted: MX, SPF and DMARC. Read from DNS only. Nothing is sent.
Accessibility basics
Image descriptions, form labels, links and buttons with nothing to announce, and the landmarks a screen reader moves by. A basic pass, and we say so.
Platform
WordPress, WooCommerce, Drupal, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow and others, where the site identifies itself, plus anything it publishes about its own version.
Being straight with you
What this checkup is not.
It is not a penetration test. We do not look for vulnerabilities, try passwords, hunt for admin pages or send your site anything a normal browser would not. If a tool offers you that against a site on the strength of an address typed into a box, be careful with it.
It also stops at one page, so it is not a full audit. Most of the settings that matter are site-wide, so the home page shows them. But a site can pass every check here and still have real problems three clicks in.
And it is not a score. We count how many checks passed and list the ones that did not, in the order we would fix them. We do not turn that into a number out of 100. A certificate that expires on Tuesday and a description that is nine characters long are not the same kind of problem. One figure would say they were.
What it is: an honest first look, in a few seconds, at the things that are cheap to get wrong and expensive to leave.
We keep a count of how many checkups were run, whether they finished, and the address that was checked, so we know the tool works and so it cannot be pointed at one site over and over. We don't store your report, and we don't ask for an email address to show it to you. If you want us to look at what we found, that is your decision to make after you have read it.
Please only check a site you own or are responsible for. The request comes from our server and shows up in that site's logs as OogleCheckup.
Questions
Before you run it.
Is it really free?
Yes, and there's no signup. You enter an address, we run the checks, and the whole report appears on screen. We don't hold half of it back behind an email address, and we don't ask for one to show you the results.
Does it change anything on my site?
No. It reads what your site already shows every visitor: the page, the headers that come with it, your robots.txt, sitemap and llms.txt files, and your domain's public DNS records. It doesn't log in, submit a form, send an email or write anything anywhere.
Why only the home page?
Because it's free and it finishes in seconds. Most of what it checks is decided site-wide: your certificate, your server headers, your platform, your caching, your email records. Page-level things like titles and headings are checked on the one page we read, and a full review covers the rest.
How is the report organized?
By area: security, performance, mobile, search, content, structured data, social sharing, AI access, email, accessibility and platform. Each area gets a card with its own state and a count of what passed. Each finding says what we found, why it matters and what to do next. The things we would fix first are listed at the top.
Can I check a site I don't own?
Everything the checkup reads is public, so technically yes. It's built for your own site, and there's a limit on how many checks one address can run, both so it stays useful and so it never becomes something pointed at somebody else's server.
What if my site doesn't answer?
You get told exactly that, and what it usually means: a domain that doesn't resolve, a server refusing connections, a certificate that won't verify, or a site too slow to finish. All four are worth knowing, and all four are things we fix.
